This page covers this website and the email I exchange with you about my work. I'm James Clarke-Lister, a consultant in Calgary, Alberta. Anything you want to ask about your information comes to me at james@jclarkelister.com.
What I collect, and why
- Contact form. Your name, email address, inquiry type, timeline and message, plus your organization and how you found me if you add them. I use them to reply to you.
- Booking a call. Cal.com runs the booking page. It collects your name, email address and anything else you enter there, and tells me about the booking so we can meet.
- Email. If we email each other, I have your name, email address, organization and what we wrote. I keep a private spreadsheet of who I have been in touch with, when, and what comes next, so I can follow up properly.
- If I emailed you first. When I write to you about my consulting or speaking, I found your address in a public listing, such as your organization's website, and it sits in the same spreadsheet.
- Visiting the site. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views: the page, the site you came from, your general location, and your browser and device type. It uses no third-party cookies and tells visits apart with a hash that is discarded after 24 hours. The site sets no cookies of its own and has no advertising trackers.
- Your IP address. Vercel handles it to serve each page, and the contact form uses it briefly to slow down abuse. I do not save it.
Who helps me, and where
These service providers handle the information above for me. All of them are based outside Canada.
- Vercel (United States) hosts the site and counts page views.
- Resend (United States) delivers contact form messages to my inbox.
- Cal.com (United States) runs the booking page.
- Proton (Switzerland, Germany or Norway) holds my email.
- Google (United States and other countries) holds my spreadsheet of contacts.
- Anthropic (United States) Claude, its AI model, reads incoming email to summarize it for me and helps me draft replies.
- Telegram (based in Dubai, with data centres in several countries) sends your name and organization, the subject and that summary to my phone.
- Apple (United States and other countries) holds my calendar, where booked calls and meeting invitations appear.
I do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
How long I keep it
I keep it for as long as I need it to stay in touch with you, or for business and legal records, and then I delete it.
Your choices
Email me to ask what I hold about you, to correct or delete it, to stop hearing from me, or for written information about how I handle it and the service providers above. I reply within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with my answer, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (opens in new tab).
